　　According to the practice of silage production at home and abroad, the ideal shredding length is 6.5-25 millimeters for high moisture forage silage; Semi dry grass silage about 6mm; Corn silage 6.5-13 millimeters. A small amount of silage raw materials can be cut short using a manual grass cutter, while large-scale silage can be cut using a silage chopper. Large silage shredders can cut 5-6 tons per hour and 8-12 tons per hour. Small grass cutters can cut 250-800kg per hour.

　　If the conditions are met, use a silage corn combine harvester to complete the cutting and slicing operation in one go in the field, and then send it back to the silage cellar, greatly improving the efficiency. After cutting silage crops short, it is first beneficial for compaction, limiting the exclusion of air, thereby inhibiting the activity of aerobic bacteria and creating a favorable environment for the activity of lactic acid bacteria. Secondly, chopping can release more juice from the plant body, providing nutrients for the reproduction of lactic acid bacteria. These effects are beneficial for the preparation of silage feed (Table 1). In addition, chopped silage is easy to access and can increase livestock feed intake. However, some studies suggest that silage that is cut too finely cannot stimulate rumination and may reduce milk fat content. Therefore, it is advocated that 10% -15% of silage should be 25 millimeters or longer to ensure effective fiber content. After adding water and packaging with bacteria to the dry straw, it can be stored in a small amount and has high commercial value. It turns crop waste into treasure, improves resource utilization, compensates for the shortcomings of insufficient and low-quality forage sources in animal husbandry, reduces feeding costs, and increases the yield and quality of meat or milk. This has led to the commercialization of animal husbandry.
