Description :
The figure shows two common M18 cylindrical proximity switches, which are widely used non-contact position sensors in the field of industrial automation. This type of product is mainly divided into inductive and capacitive types, used to detect the presence of metal or non-metal objects without physical contact, thereby achieving automatic control, counting, positioning, and limit protection of equipment.
The above one is an inductive proximity switch with a metal shell (usually nickel plated brass), and its sensing surface is made of light green PBT material, which has good impact resistance and chemical corrosion resistance. It is specifically used for detecting various metal objects such as iron, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, etc. When a metal target enters its electromagnetic field induction range, the amplitude of the oscillation circuit inside the switch changes, triggering the switch output signal. Its sturdy metal threaded body is easy to install and fix in harsh industrial environments and can withstand certain mechanical stresses.
The one below is a proximity switch with a plastic casing (usually PBT or PA nylon), which may be capacitive or universal inductive based on its appearance. The black adjustment ring design allows users to fine tune sensitivity or detection distance according to actual application scenarios, enhancing flexibility in use. Plastic material makes it lighter in weight and has better adaptability for detecting non-metallic materials such as plastic, wood, liquids, powders, etc. (if capacitive), or for use in situations where magnetic interference needs to be avoided.
Both sensors are equipped with standard black PUR/PVC sheathed cables, which have reliable outgoing methods and can effectively resist the erosion of oil, coolant, and general industrial environments. They are widely used in automation equipment such as CNC machine tools, packaging machinery, printing equipment, assembly line conveyor systems, robot arms, etc. As an alternative to travel switches or photoelectric switches, especially in dusty, humid or vibrating environments, their non-contact working mode ensures higher stability and longer service life. For electrical engineers and equipment maintenance personnel, choosing the appropriate detection distance (such as 2mm, 4mm, 8mm), output type (NPN/PNP, NO/NC), and operating voltage (DC 10-30V) is the key to ensuring stable system operation.
