      In the process of shot blasting cleaning, considering the tightness and hardness of the oxide layer on the surface of the workpiece, traditional steel wire cutting shot, cast steel shot, and grinding shot have limited penetration ability on its surface. Steel wire cutting shot, on the other hand, rapidly passivates its edges during shot blasting, making it difficult to maintain its sharpness for a long time, resulting in a continuous decrease in penetration and stripping efficiency of the dense oxide layer on the surface of the workpiece. These problems will prolong the shot blasting cleaning time, leading to unnecessary waste of steel shot, power energy, time, and excessive wear of shot blasting equipment.

      In order to solve the above problems, we choose to mix traditional steel shot and steel sand to form a steel sand and steel shot mixed abrasive with a certain proportion. During the shot blasting cleaning process, the steel sand and steel shot mixture has the following advantages:

      A large amount of sharp edged steel grit can maintain sufficient penetration ability of the abrasive, resulting in high shot blasting cleaning efficiency;

      How to choose the ratio of steel sand and steel shot

      Firstly, we need to consider the hardness and impurity properties of the workpiece surface. The higher the hardness and density, the better the roughness of the oxide layer. Therefore, we need to increase the specific gravity of the steel sand to provide sufficient penetration ability for the abrasive and improve the efficiency of shot blasting cleaning;

      If the impurities on the surface of the workpiece are loose or the impurity particles are large, it is possible to consider increasing the specific gravity of the steel shot. It should be noted that the steel shot has greater kinetic energy at the same speed and has an advantage in cleaning such impurities;

      Considering the surface roughness of the workpiece, if the roughness requirement is smaller, the specific gravity of the steel shot will be increased, and if the roughness requirement is larger, the specific gravity of the steel sand will be increased.

      Types of steel grit and shot
