      1、 Location of Traffic Sign Foundation Setting

      The foundation of traffic signs is generally set at the location of well compacted soil embankments or triangular areas. When the location is not suitable for change, it can also be set on the debris platform or large bridges of excavation sections.

      2、 Design of Traffic Sign Fundamentals

      The foundation of traffic signs is generally buried at a depth of less than 3m and belongs to shallow foundations. It can be designed as a rigid foundation type that does not require the installation of load-bearing steel bars. Signs located on bridges should be equipped with necessary load-bearing steel bars through calculation. When the rigid foundation is too large or the soil quality at the location of the sign is poor, pile foundations can be considered for design.

      3、 Verification of Traffic Sign Foundation

      a. Calculation of foundation stress: After determining the burial depth or structural dimensions of the foundation, the stress of the base should be calculated based on the most unfavorable load combination. Negative stress on the base should be avoided as much as possible (the area of negative stress on the base should not exceed 1/4 of the total area), otherwise the redistribution of base stress should be considered. The stress generated by the foundation should not exceed the strength of the bearing layer of the foundation, which is the allowable bearing capacity of the foundation.

      b. Calculation of the eccentricity of the base force when setting up traffic signs: The eccentricity of the base force should not exceed the core radius of the base, so as to distribute the base stress as evenly as possible and avoid significant uneven settlement of the base due to the large difference in stress on both sides of the base.
