Application Status of Wireless Temperature Monitoring Technology

With the development of the power industry, the requirements for equipment safety and reliability are becoming increasingly high. The traditional method of manually inspecting equipment has gradually weakened, and under such conditions, wireless temperature measurement systems for high-voltage equipment have emerged. This technology involves installing temperature sensors with built-in batteries and wireless transmission modules at various temperature measurement points. Due to its small size and no need for any wiring, its electrical safety can be guaranteed. The sensor periodically sends temperature measurement data wirelessly to the receiving unit, which can be networked to send the data to the main station, thereby achieving electrical temperature monitoring of a regional system.

At present, many power grid companies, substations, steel companies, etc. in China have adopted this wireless temperature monitoring technology on high-voltage equipment. Relatively speaking, thermal power plants rarely adopt this technology due to their own different reasons. Most thermal power plants still use traditional methods such as temperature testing wax strips and thermometers to monitor equipment manually.

Background of wireless temperature measurement system construction

      1.1 Equipment scale

The power distribution project of this rolling mill consists of a 10kV switchgear and two substations, 1 # and 2 #, with a total of 21 medium voltage switchgear cabinets. Among them, the medium voltage switch is a mid mounted switchgear for vacuum circuit breakers, using 150VCP-W50 vacuum circuit breakers imported from Eaton in the United States and VD4 vacuum circuit breakers produced by ABB.

1.2 Current Status of Equipment Operation and Maintenance

In daily operation, 10kV switches have the characteristics of long live operation time, high operating current, and few opportunities for power outage maintenance and repair. Moreover, due to the five prevention design, the switch cabinet door cannot be opened due to locking. It is difficult for operation and maintenance personnel to effectively monitor the temperature of hot parts of the switch cabinet, such as dynamic and static contacts, outgoing busbars, etc., relying solely on temperature measuring guns or infrared imaging devices. From 2013 to 2015, this power distribution project experienced accidents that affected the safety and stability of the distribution room, such as the overheating and tripping of the 1AH6 incoming line switch contacts causing busbar power loss, and the overheating and tripping of the 1AH10 incoming line switch contacts causing busbar power loss.

The main reason for the above accidents is the lack of effective online monitoring methods, which makes it difficult to effectively prevent overheating faults. When the switch components heat up, they cannot be dealt with in a timely manner, resulting in switch damage and even non-stop operation of the distribution room. In short, the 10kV switch of this distribution project cannot meet the requirements for safe and stable operation of the distribution room.

Application of wireless temperature measurement in underground power cables of coal mines

Aiming at the current situation of underground power cables in mines, a temperature monitoring device for underground power cables based on wireless sensor networks has been designed. 2.4G wireless radio frequency technology is used as the communication method, and the wireless temperature measurement device and temperature monitoring management software of the device are provided. This device overcomes the limitations of traditional underground power cables that cannot monitor temperature, avoids the shortcomings of poor communication methods in other wireless communication technologies, has low cost and reliable operation, and has good economic and social benefits. 2.4G; wireless temperature measurement device; Temperature monitoring and management software

The underground environment of coal mines is harsh and prone to various dangers. In order to ensure the safe production of coal mines, it is necessary to monitor and understand various situations underground in a timely manner. The measurement of cable temperature in underground power devices is currently mainly used for online measurement of cable temperature in mines and installation temperature measurement in power plant cable trenches at home and abroad. Moreover, the equipment is large and requires significant investment.

The laying and usage status of cables affect their service life. After a period of use, cables often experience insulation aging under external environmental influences, accompanied by high temperatures, partial discharges, and other states. Once a fault is detected in the power cable, it also wastes a lot of manpower and material resources, and underground cable maintenance is very difficult. In response to the above issues, this article proposes a wireless temperature measurement device for underground power cables based on wireless sensing technology. This device consists of two parts: a wireless temperature measurement device and temperature monitoring management software. There is a temperature information acquisition device and wireless temperature sensor in front of this device. By installing the temperature information acquisition device at the joint of the underground power cable, real-time temperature changes can be collected and tracked, and 2.4G RF technology is used to transmit temperature data, providing a guarantee for wireless information acquisition in complex underground environments. Safe and convenient, improving data collection efficiency.
