Basic performance of LRB high damping rubber isolation bearings
1. Energy absorption capacity of lead dampers
Rubber itself is a material that is prone to tensile and compressive deformation, and when used alone as a support, it undergoes significant deformation. Engineering rubber bearings are composed of thin steel plates and thin rubber layers. The steel plates have excellent restraining effect on the vertical deformation of rubber, and the vertical compression stiffness is very high. However, like natural rubber bearings, LRB bearings have lower tensile stiffness, about 1/7-1/10 of the compression stiffness.
2. Horizontal deformation capacity of LBR support
The steel plate constrains the vertical deformation of the rubber but has no effect on its horizontal deformation. At the same time, the lead core can effectively follow the deformation of the support and absorb seismic energy. The horizontal performance of LRB bearings is stable. Due to the presence of lead cores, LRB bearings can limit the horizontal deformation of the bearings. The horizontal deformation of seismic isolation structures with LRB bearings is smaller than that with RB bearings (without considering external damping).
3. Working characteristics of LRB supports
Lead rubber bearings adjust the damping by adjusting the size of the lead core. After the diameter of the lead core increases, the yield force increases and the damping increases. However, an excessively large central hole can also have a negative impact on the performance of the support.
4. Durability of LRB bearings
Engineering investigations in Japan and other countries have shown that LRB bearings are basically the same as RB bearings, and the isolation rubber remains intact even after 100 years of use. A survey shows that after 10 years of use, the characteristics of LRB bearings remain basically unchanged, and it is predicted that their performance will only decrease by 3% after 60 years.
5. Basic mechanical properties of LRB bearings
The hysteresis performance of lead rubber bearings can be represented by a double line model. The thin solid line represents the hysteresis characteristics of the rubber bearing. The horizontal characteristics of LRB bearings are superimposed with the horizontal performance of the rubber and lead core parts.
