LCP 2130 NC010 DuPont Original Color
Liquid Crystal Polymer, abbreviated as LCP. It is a new type of high-performance special engineering plastic developed in the early 1980s. Liquid crystal polymer (LCP) belongs to aromatic thermoplastic polyester. Liquid crystals self organize at the molecular level and are divided into three categories: thermally induced liquid crystals, lyotropic liquid crystals, and photo induced liquid crystals. When modifying, we use the first two types of LCP: one is lyotropic liquid crystal, which has liquid crystal properties when dissolved in solvents. Another type is thermally induced liquid crystal, which exhibits liquid crystal properties when melted.
The research history of LCP is much later than that of liquid crystals.
1. Liquid crystal was discovered by Austrian botanist Friedrich Reinitzer (1857-1927) in 1888 while observing cholesterol esters of benzoate.
