      Coal to Ethylene Glycol Project Double Overflow Tray Strip Float Valve Tray Internal Components

      Double overflow tray is a type of tray that uses a strip-shaped float valve. The principle of the float valve tray is that there are many holes on the tray, and each hole is equipped with a valve. When there is no rising vapor phase, the float valve is closed on the tray. When there is a rising vapor phase, the float valve is impacted by the vapor flow and opens upwards. The opening increases with the amount of vapor phase. The rising vapor phase passes through the valve hole and disperses horizontally under the action of the float valve plate. It bubbles out through the liquid layer, allowing the vapor and liquid phases to fully contact and achieve the ideal heat and mass transfer effect.

      Structural characteristics of float valve tray:

      The spacing between sieve holes should consider the requirements for gas-liquid two-phase contact on the tray. If the spacing between holes is too small, it will intensify the collision and coalescence of bubbles passing through adjacent sieve holes, increase the pressure drop of the plate and the entrainment of mist. Excessive spacing between pores can cause uneven bubbling, resulting in dead zones in the liquid layer between pores, affecting gas-liquid contact mass transfer, and reducing mass transfer efficiency. The spacing between holes is generally 2.5 to 4 times the diameter of the hole. According to the requirements of aperture ratio, sometimes the spacing between holes can also be expanded to 2-5 times the aperture size. The arrangement of sieve holes can be equilateral triangles, isosceles triangles, or rectangles. The equilateral triangle method is most commonly used in design because it is the most uniform arrangement. In design, in order to adjust the aperture ratio, sometimes isosceles triangle arrangement is also used.

      Downpipe and overflow method:

      The liquid channel between the upper and lower trays of the downcomer. Since the foam liquid with high gas content enters the downcomer after crossing the overflow weir, the downcomer should undertake the task of gas-liquid separation. Therefore, the downcomer must have sufficient cross-sectional area and volume. The downcomer can be bow shaped, circular, or rectangular. According to the liquid volume and the diameter of the tower, one, two, or more downcomers can be installed. Due to different settings of the downcomer, the overflow mode of the liquid on the tray also varies accordingly. If a bow shaped downcomer is installed, it is called a single overflow, which means that the liquid passes through the entire tower section and flows from one side to the other, with less backmixing, higher tray efficiency, and the simplest structure. But single overflow cannot withstand large liquid volumes and is not suitable for large tower diameters. Liquid flows on the tray due to the gravity of the liquid level drop. When the flow rate is high or the process is long, it can cause a large liquid level gradient and uneven gas bubbling. Therefore, if the liquid volume is large or the tower diameter is large, double overflow or multiple overflow should be selected.

      Recently, our company started on-site installation and construction of 19 tower internals for the methanol washing and gasification unit of a 600000 ton coal to ethylene glycol project undertaken by a chemical enterprise in Inner Mongolia. In order to complete the installation work as soon as possible, the site was tense and orderly, and our construction team rushed to meet the schedule despite wind and snow.
